Regular price

ELAINE KEOGH is presenting a two day millinery masterclass on Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th April 2019. All photos proceeding the first photo are of students work at recent classes.

The classes will take place at Belmont Mill & Art Studios, Co. Offaly, RF42 EF21. This course will run from 10:00 - 18:00 each day. A light lunch will be provided.  This is an intensive course so please book local accommodation or stay locally. During this course you will make two hats. **Please note that everyone works at different paces so if you choose a hat with intricate detail (beading, flower making etc) you will not have two fully finished. You will choose from the following: Blocking, using buckram, felt, straw, sinamay, silk, feathers, making a hat that has smooth edges (no creases), using hat veiling, lace techniques etc. Elaine teaches traditional millinery. All levels welcome, although an advantage, no previous sewing experience necessary. **Materials are extra, due to the varying cost of millinery materials - there is a small variety of fabric at the studio that you may purchase on the day of the course or contact Elaine for advise on suitable fabrics to purchase before the course. Material for a basic sinamay hat is around €14 but the sky is the limit in relation to silk hats or using lace, feathers etc.

Elaine was taught under Rose Cory MBE. Elaine spent four years under Rose in London. Elaine's hats have gone down the catwalk at London Fashion week, she has a high end clientele including a list celebs, she has also gone into production for one of Italys high end design houses resulting in Elaine's work being seen in Selfridges, Debenhams, and exclusive stores through the UK and Ireland. Elaine was a CREATE designer in Brown Thomas. Elaine's passion for fabrics is taught throughout the course.

Returns policy for classes:

Millinery Master Class - Intensive 2 day. - April 7th & 8th
Master Class

Elaine Keogh Millinery

Elaine won Millinery Designer of the Year 2016 at the Irish Fashion & Innovation Awards in March '16. Elaine's hats have been seen down the catwalks of London Fashion week, gracing the heads of ladies in the Royal Enclosure at Ascot along with race days and weddings around the world.

Elaine Keogh brings meditative design and exacting craftsmanship to the art of millinery. Her hats are entirely hand made using a harmony of line, material and colour.

She catches the timeless engagements of skill and imagination by infusing classic styles with a contemporary bohemian twist.

Working methodically through processes that draw out the distinctive personality of each individual client she chooses luxurious sustainable silks, laces, velvets, wools and exquisite adornments. Her traditional training, under the inimitable Rose Cory, means that her hats are resiliently constructed using age old crafts. However delicate, they never look ‘handled’.

Elaine’s approach to design and making is nurtured in the arcadian surroundings of the old mill that is her studio. A patina of rolling Irish boglands, acres of summer wildflowers and vast billowing skies all inspire a creative spirit.

Her signature evolves in a measured, confident femininity — layered, fluid, charming - infused with a gentle but unmistakable assurance. Each hat, exquisitely realised, gives its own special joy.

Head Sizing

Some hats require your head size. Using a soft measuring tape measure across your forehead, just above your eyebrows, above your ears and around the widest part of the back of your head. A “standard” ladies headsize is 22.5” (57cm) but headsizes can vary from 20” to 24”.
